Della Rose Wadsworth Obituary
Salem – Della (Bounds) Wadsworth passed away at her home at the age of 87, where she lived a long and happy life surrounded by the love of her family.
Born December 3, 1938 at Mary McClellan Hospital to Joseph and Eliza (Baldwin) Bounds. Della attended Cambridge Central School, graduating in 1956. On December 25th, 1954, she married David R. Wadsworth, and together they raised four rambunctious boys, building a home filled with warmth, laughter, and family.
Della’s career calling was as a Home Health Aide, a role she enjoyed for over 20 years at Adirondack Home Aides. She was a natural homebody who loved reading, doing word puzzles and almost always had a jigsaw puzzle in progress. Above all, her greatest joy came from spending time with family and loved ones. She loved having visitors—especially her grandchildren—and there were always cookies waiting in her signature Yosemite Sam cookie jar.
In addition to her parents, Della was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, David, brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Joan Bounds, brothers-in-law, Francis Ackley, Wally Fedler and Leornard Ormsbee; daughter-in-law, Holly Wadsworth; grandchildren, BJ and Joseph Wadsworth, and her great-grandchildren, Care-n-love and David Wadsworth.
Della is survived by her sons, Steven (Elke) Wadsworth of Bitche France, Morris (Autumn) Wadsworth of Salem, NY, Joseph Wadsworth of Ft. Edward, NY and Randy (Bonnie) Wadsworth of Greenwich, NY. She is also survived by her sisters, Cathy Ackley of Greenwich, NY, and Patricia (Chip) Ormsbee of North Bennington, VT.
Della leaves behind a rich legacy of 16 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. Among them are her special loved ones: granddaughter, April Young, nieces, Joyce Elliott and Patty Bounds and nephew, Justin Bounds. Also remembering her is her caregiver, Michele Hermance, who was by her side for four years.
Della was on a first name basis with most of the Salem Rescue Squad’s crew, whom she spoke fondly of. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Della’s name to the Salem Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 360, Salem, NY 12865.
A life well lived, Della will be deeply missed and forever loved. She will be laid to rest in Woodlands Cemetery in Cambridge, NY on Tuesday, September 29, 2026 at 3:00 pm with Rev. Debbie Earthrowl officiating.
