Newsletter 2026-09-13

Dear CCS Alumni and Friends:

Thank you all for the wonderful response to our new website! Please keep the feedback coming—we truly appreciate everyone who has taken the time to look around and let us know what you’ve found. We have already fixed many of the issues you pointed out to us, and your help has been invaluable as we continue to improve the site. As a reminder, please make sure you are using the new website URL: ccs-indians.com Thank you again for your support, your patience, and your help in making our new website the best it can be!

From Ann Vilet, Class of 1983- The Class of 1983 is having a Mini Reunion on October 11! Ann has put together a flyer with all the details. We hope you’ll join your classmates for a fun time of reconnecting and reminiscing! See the flyer below for all the information.

From Debby Bowler Briscoe- Class of 1969 – THANK-YOU for taking on this responsibility and looking forward to reviewing the site.  As a former IT professional, I used to test (custom) programs regularly and will certainly let you know if I find any bugs, er features (not bugs)?  Haha!   And BTW, the person Garrett saw in Half Moon Bay in the grocery store was me!  And boy, did he ever have a story to tell me regarding my Dad, Charlie Ackley and possibly Bill Robertson about laying linoleum when we updated our kitchen in 1963.  Keep up the wonderful work, many appreciate keeping the connections updated, even if 3,000 miles away.

From Sarah Carroll – Class of 1996– I’m looking forward to checking it out! I noticed the “expensive” typo – but I figured it probably would have been expensive. I also thought it was likely meant to be expansive since we all know Ken doesn’t do anything halfway! I’m excited!

  • This is so true. Ken has been all in with the new website project.

From Betty White: Thanks, Ted Presler for bringing up the Pirates of Penzance,  We all had so much fun with that operatta.  And also at the party afterward!!

From Richard Randles: Kathy – Thanks for your wonderful work and for ensuring that Ken gets his kuddos too for his great contributions to our community.

Fun fact; I was in that first Kindergarten class 75 years ago! Our family moved in 1960 and I attended another high school so I’m not an official “Alum”, but have always had a Cambridge connection since we had our place on Hedges Lake continuously. We returned year round in1972. Again great work, much appreciated.

From Shailer Evans- Class of 1956: I enjoyed Peggy’s article on reading and writing. I absolutely agree. I taught elementary school for over 30 years and have a  Master’s in Developmental Reading. I have seen different programs with which to teach reading such as whole language and Distar among others. These lacked either phonics or poorly arranged comprehensive skills and vocabulary development. While all components are important , the most fundamental of these is phonics.

I thank Peggy again for her article as it has brought back many memories.

From Mary Loren: Good Afternoon Kathy, I’m so happy to still be included in the distribution of the Cambridge School Alumni Newsletter.  I’m Tom Loren’s widow, he was a 1954 Graduate and was so so grateful to Pauline Rogers Nash for all she did to get the Reunions going and for the great Newsletters and the Website.  He would also be so thankful to you as am I, for taking on the challenge and continuing the hard work.  You will find his obituary on CCS website.  Since we lived in Cambridge in our early married life I’m also very invested in all things Cambridge. In 1962 we moved  to South Glens Falls and in 2000 moved to Manassas, VA to be closer to our youngest daughter living here and our eldest and grandson in Tampa, FL.  We did make a few Reunions after that and of course returned annually to see our friends like Fred Bovie who is also a 1954 Graduate, Betty & Glenn White and many other great friends.

I was so happy to see a great tribute Obituary for Garrett Albert by his family.  They lived in Fairfax until moving to Walnut Creek, CA so Tom and Garrett had a chance to renew their friendship from school and Garrett’s shared rides with Tom to Fort Devens, MA in 1961-62 when they were both recalled during the Berlin Crisis.

I hope I can remain on your list and I’m looking forward to the new website. With Gratitude! Mary Loren

From Jim Scaglione: Hi Kathy, This is Jim Scaglione – class of 1975. I think your brother Rob was in the same class as my brother Joe. First of all, kudos to you for doing such a great job with the alumni newsletter.   I’m sure it’s a lot of work but your attention to detail is noticeable!  Thanks. I am in the process of cleaning out and I found this mirror in an old pocketbook of my Mom’s. I had to take a picture and send it to you. Thanks again! Jim

-Thank you for sharing this! What a great find! I wonder what other Cambridge memorabilia people have tucked away. It would be fun to see what everyone discovers!
